Gary Cunningham joined the NACADA Executive
Office in January 2007 as the IT Manager. Previously the coordinator
of a consolidated technical support team within Kansas State University’s
College of Agriculture, Gary now manages the technical support
issues, web development, and network administration tasks for
the Executive Office.
Gary began his “adventures in computing” in the early ‘80s while in the Army. Though a medical NCO by trade, he sought ways to use emerging technologies to automate routine administrative tasks. After retiring from military service in 1994, Gary began civilian life as a computer support specialist at the satellite campus of Barton County Community College at Fort Riley, Kansas. Three years later he migrated to the K-State Department of Agronomy as the Computing Coordinator. Over the next 4 years two other departments, Plant Pathology and HFRR, joined the support arrangement, receiving computing support, web development, graphics design, network administration, large-format printing, and more from what became a multi-departmental support team. After 9 successful years with K-State, Gary joined the NACADA team.
Gary continues his involvement in
several K-State committees and teams and continues to be integrated
in the campus IT issues. Serving as the NACADA IT liaison to the
university, Gary represents the Executive Office's IT concerns
to the respective campus support activities. Gary is enjoying
tackling the new challenges provided by NACADA, including webinars,
pod-casting, dynamic website development and more.
