2003 Post-Conference Unit Report

 

Commission/Interest Group:   Engineering and Science Advising Commission   

 

Chair:     Jill Johnson     

 

Summary of Annual Meeting at National Conference (agenda items, issues, discussion topics, announcements, etc.)

  • Introductions of steering committee, new attendees/members
  • Discussion of need for sharing of ideas and concerns/questions among commission members - use of list serve (and how to subscribe), presentations - noted all in the program and asked for those presenters in attendance to talk about their presentation, individual discussions, and resources - on a commission website.
  • Things to do and have done - activities include connections that members have made individually, partnerships for presentations at conferences, collection of useful websites (to be posted)
  • Things that we need to do - and request for identification of people interested in leadership and volunteer roles, in particular, the commission chair election.

 

This meeting was kept to more of a business meeting -- Issues and topics were discussed at a discussion forum.

 

Approximate Number of Commission/Interest Group Members in Attendance: 40-50   

 

Critical Issues of Concern or "Hot Topics" Identified:

Discussed at other forums - both at the roundtable and at a discussion/concurrent session

Unit Goals and Objectives for Next Year:

  1. Increased/better communications - list serve and e-mails to commission membership
  2. Continued improvement on information on the website - including resources for membership.
  3. Continued encouragement for participation in conferences - maintain level of concurrent and discussion sessions.with special invitation to new presenters.

Future Activities Planned:

N/A - as above - we are focused on the short term as a new commission. We need to deliver on these, then consider more substantive projects.
