Mission 1 : Address the academic advising needs of higher education.
Strategies:

Identify, prioritize, and address critical issues facing academic advising. Through surveys and needs assessments, identify the issues facing academic advising in higher education and propose methods for addressing these issues - from recognition of advising as a critical component of student success to the recognition of advisors as critical to the educational/developmental process.

Sponsor 5 (or the predetermined number) conference presentations and reward presenters with framed certificate at cost of $25 each = $125 The Chair will ask one person from the steering committee will to coordinate the review and include 2005-07-01 0000-00-00 This chair is not sure of the exact timeline for selection but will name the coordinator by 1/01/05. 
Promote Service-to-Commission award annually and reward with a plaque at a cost of $60 Chair will appoint one steering committee member to coordinate collection and review of nominees. 2005-01-01 0000-00-00

Provide comprehensive professional development opportunities to the academic advising community. Identify, develop, and deliver professional development activities and resources to meet the needs of the academic advising community - including institutions, central administrators, full-time advisors, faculty advisors, and peer advisors.

a. Discussed motivating advisors and administrators to do research - plans made to have an active list serve discussion in order to gain information about how to do this; how to manage time to research vs. advisee load; and topics for research

b. Discussed learning from "best practices" - plans made to gather tips from members on a monthly basis and post them to the commission website

c. Celebrated the award winners and presenters who are commission members

d. Divided into institution-type for a "getting to know you" session
