Mission 1 :
Address the academic advising needs of higher education.
Strategies:
1-A
Identify, prioritize, and address critical issues facing academic
advising. Through surveys and needs assessments, identify the issues
facing academic advising in higher education and propose methods
for addressing these issues - from recognition of advising as a
critical component of student success to the recognition of advisors
as critical to the educational/developmental process.

of academic advising through further understanding of the student,

Champion the educational role of academic advising to enhance student
learning and development in a diverse world.
Strategies:

Identify and develop strategies for fostering collaboration with
various advising constituencies. Seek collaborative relationships
with academic and student services related associations, discipline
specific organizations, higher education associations, and accrediting
agencies to promote the importance of academic advising.

5: Summary of Annual Interest Group Meeting
The
First-Generation College Student Advising Interest Group met
at the NACADA National Conference to discuss issues and strategies.
There were 38 attendees.
Members were encouraged
to submit proposals to their regional meeting for roundtable
discussions. Members will be contacted informally via e-mail.
