Advisor Training and Development Commission "Ask a Colleague" Initiative
Have
you ever wished you could talk to a NACADA colleague whose experience
in a particular training and development issue or initiative mirrored
an experience you were facing? Have you ever wanted to help a colleague
by sharing your experience with a particular transition or training-related
issue? Now you can share your knowledge and expertise with
your colleagues through the Advisor
Training and Development Commission "Ask a Colleague" Initiative! This
initiative is intended to provide opportunities for members to network
with one another, share ideas, and seek advice in an informal manner.
Commission
members may post a brief biography highlighting areas of expertise
and experience they are willing to share with others and/or read
bios of commission members in the hopes of contacting a colleague
who may have experience in an area in which some advice is needed.
If
you're willing to share your thoughts and ideas with others, please
get involved and send in your bio today!

Here
how it works:
-
Advisor Training and Development
Commission members submit a brief biography to the Commission
Chair who compiles the information and forwards it
to the NACADA Executive Office (currently, Pat
Folsom at pat-folsom@uiowa.edu).
Include
the following information:
-
Name
-
Institution
-
Contact
Information (e-mail address,
office phone number)
-
Education (degrees held)
-
Current
job position>
-
Related
Experience (include areas of
expertise, special projects, etc.)
- Additional
Insight or Comments
-
This
information will be posted in the "Ask a Colleague"
section of the Advisor Training and Development Commission's
"Resources" web site.
-
Once
posted, other members can read the bios and search for others
whose areas of interest or expertise match their particular
needs or interests. For example, if you were a new
supervisor responsible for developing a training module for
student peer advisors, you could peruse the bios and search
for a member with experience in this area. You could then contact
the member profiled and seek advice, ask questions, and learn
about any frustrations or joys faced in the process.

initiative differs from the NACADA
Member Expertise Database.
