Platform Statement:
Although I am relatively new to the leadership ranks in NACADA,
I am very enthusiastic and prepared for the challenge. As a director
of advising, I have been committed to ongoing and innovative advisor
training and staff development for several years. I have instituted
required advisor training, weekly staff meetings, monthly staff
development, and twice-yearly retreats for the advising staff
in the McCombs School of Business. I have worked in divisions
where training was practically nonexistent and I've worked in
areas where I received excellent initial and ongoing training.
I KNOW the value of staff development and thorough training first
hand! If elected as Commission Chair I hope to work with committee
members and professional development and advisor registry task
forces to develop a comprehensive plan for advisor professional
development. As I believe we are our own best teachers,
I would also like to assist in developing a web based collection
of best practices in advisor training, allowing us to share ideas
and programs.
