Statement:
I have been an advocate
for adult learners at Western Illinois University, UNC-Pembroke,
and in my current position at Illinois State University. I have
spearheaded many initiatives that enrich the lives of nontraditional
students and help them achieve their educational and personal
goals. I believe that the Adult Learner Commission has supported
me and others by providing a forum for discussion and by empowering
those of us who work with adult learners, timely information,
best practices and support.
My goal for this commission
is to further encourage professionals to present programs at state,
regional, and national conferences so that we can continue to
learn how to best serve adult learners. Technology is an important
part of disseminating information so we as a commission should
continue to support and enhance our website and list serve. In
addition, we need to update the "Advising Adult Learner Task Force
Report". I will bring energy, passion and enthusiasm to this position
and am honored to accept the nomination.
