Platform Statement:

As Chair of the Commission on Advising Adult Learners, my goals would be to enhance the resources available and encourage communication among advisors who advise non-traditional students. The commission should support not only those who primarily advise adults but also those for whom non-traditional students are only one of many groups with which they work. NACADA makes it possible for advisors to share with one another. During my term, I will concentrate on improving the ways we can make information available to each other without overloading our inboxes, both traditional and electronic.

I bring to this task more than 12 years of membership in NACADA, many presentations to regional and national NACADA conferences, and experience dealing with adults in a variety of programs. I have worked at both public and private institutions, on large campuses and at small sites that bring education to students long distances from the main campus, and with programs using not only day and evening classroom instruction, but also guided independent study, group studies and web courses. This gives me an understanding of the needs of advisors in the many different programs that serve adults.
