Platform
Statement:
- Highlight your involvement in
this unit that will help you in leading this unit. What roles
have you played in this unit thus far?
While
I have been involved in this unit in name only, I am confident
that I could contribute in a positive manner. I have spent my
entire graduate and professional advising life working with and
advocating for the undecided/exploratory student on three separate
campuses.
- What do you believe are the
most important goals and initiatives for this unit in meeting
the strategic plan for both the unit and the Association?
The
mission of the Undecided and Exploratory Students Commission is
to promote the advancement and improvement of academic advising
with this population through the greater dissemination of resources
and and research pertinent to this educational endeavor. This
mission is an admirable one, and I would work to develop mechanisms
to ensure greater distribution of pertinent information and provide
meaningful networking opportunities for those members that work
with this population. For me, NACADA members should have the
most rescent research from the field regarding undecided and exploratory
students, and they should be able to get together and discuss
these issues with folks across the association.
- Why are you interested in serving
in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for
this leadership position?
I
have spent my entire professional career working to help college
students create a successful college experience for themselves,
and I view my primary role in this profession as that of an educator
with an ethical responsibility to improve the lives of those around
me. Most of my professional life has been about serving this
special population (I have a real passion for the undecided student)
Finally, I have enjoyed my tenure in NACADA, and it's time for
me to get more involved. Being nominated to chair this commission
is a real honor, and I would do my best to share what I have learned,
as an advisor and advising administrator, to better the commission
and NACADA.
- Provide
any additional comments or information regarding your past experiences
and qualifications that relate to your candidacy for this leadership
position.
