Statement:
- Highlight
your involvement in this unit that will help you in leading this
unit. What roles have you played in this unit thus far?
As a member of the steering committee assisting the current Advising
Students with Disabilities Commission Chair, I have had an opportunity
to gain an understanding of the challenges and responsibilities
of the commission chair position.
- What
do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives for
this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and
the Association?
The
most important goals of the Advising Disabilities Commission are
to facilitate the sharing of information among advisors and to
make all advisors, whether members of the commission or not, aware
of the needs of disabled students and of resources that can help
serve them.
-
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position
or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
As
an advisor, I am committed to making a university education possible
for all members of society who can benefit from study at our institutions.
People with disabilities face many challenges in pursuing their
dreams of completing a degree. Each has distinctive needs. Advisors
need to be innovative and resourceful in helping them overcome
any problems that arise. The Advising Students with Disabilities
Commission can facilitate our learning from each other and therefore
help us better serve these students.
- Provide
any additional comments or information regarding your past experiences
and qualifications that relate to your candidacy for this leadership
position.
I would be pleased to serve as the chair of the Advising Students
with Disabilities Commission.
