Platform Statement:

  • Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that will help you in leading this unit. What roles have you played within this particular unit as a member thus far?

My involvement in the National Academic Advising Association is and has been one of the highlights of my career. The passion that I feel toward advising is regenerated each time I participate in a NACADA activity - and becoming Region One Chair would add fuel to that fire. My previous experiences working with the Region One Steering Committee and Conference Committee has taught me that our Region is particularly blessed with hard-working, capable and enthusiastic individuals whose collective drive leads to incredible accomplishments.

I have been witness to some profound changes in our Region leadership structure and hope to carry that change through, using the experience that I have culled from my involvement in the Region and the Regional Conferences. Most importantly, my time as Conference co-Chair has shown me the importance of acting in concert with people that are in touch with the pulse and drive of our Region.

  • What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and the Association?

I believe that Region 1 is strong and vibrant and represents NACADA extremely well. There is, however, always room to improve our recognition across the region and to increase membership and region involvement. I plan to help NACADA in addressing the items in the Strategic Plan through active Region 1 involvement. I would like to increase the opportunities for involvement in NACADA within our Region and hope to see a marked increase in the recognition and participation of Region 1 members on the regional and national levels of this great organization.

  • Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?

I strongly believe in NACADA and the work that this organization does on a National and Regional level. I am proud of my involvement thus far and see this next step as one of the most important that I can take to better serve NACADA and the people of Region 1.

  • Provide any additional comments or information (either personal or leadership-related) that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered elsewhere in your platform information.

It would be my pleasure and privilege to serve the members of Region 1. If you have any questions regarding my nomination, plans or commitment, please do not hesitate to contact me at s.kolls@neu.edu or by phone at 617-373-5906.
