Statement:
-
Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that will
help you in leading this unit. What roles have you played within
this particular unit as a member thus far?
I started my professional responsibilities by advising all majors
at a small private university and transitioned into the College
of Business at a large institution. I work with all students from
prospective families to graduating seniors and have a large number
of students assigned to me. I interact with business faculty on
a regular basis, teach a Business Orientation Class, and represent
the College of Business at the University Academic Advising Committee.
-
What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives
for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit
and the Association?
I believe that goals for the Advising Business Majors Commission
should include open conversations and discussions regarding:
1)
accreditation of 4 year business programs and issues revolving
around the curriculums,
2)
professional development with dwindling budgets,
3)
meeting the needs of the student and involved parent with limited
resources, and
4)
effectively assisting transfer students in their transition from
2-year to 4-year programs.
- Why are
you interested in serving in this leadership position or what
influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I believe that NACADA has been an integral part of my professional
development in academic advising and feel that it is important
to support it's continued success. It is through our involvement
that our organization is able to assist new advisors and professionals.
By running for the Commission Chair on Advising Business Majors,
I feel comfortable with my understanding of the ongoing issues
and believe that I can assist others with similar interests. There
is a commonality with business majors and we frequently have similar
issues.
