Platform Statement
:

Highlight your previous involvement within this unit that will help you in leading this unit.  What roles have you played within this particular unit as a member thus far?

I have been involved in Region 8 leadership since my first involvement in conference planning for the Portland, Oregon 2005 regional conference. With my previous background as a CPA, I have also served in a consulting capacity to region regarding financial issues over the last three years. I have been significantly involved in all or the regional conferences since 2005 and currently serve on the newly formed regional steering committee.

What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and the Association?

I believe the most important goals for Region 8 are:

  • To increase NACADA membership within the region
  • To increase the diversity of membership within NACADA
  • To continue improving communication channels in the region
  • To cement the newly formed steering committee as the governing body of the region
  • To increase the opportunity for professional development for all members in the region.

Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or what influenced you to run for this leadership position?

Strong leadership in a geographically dispersed region calls for strong communication skills, adaptability, and a focus on collaborative leadership. We have tremendous and divergent team in the newly formed steering committee. These members are loaded with new ideas, full of energy, and ready to move forward with changes in the region. I am excited to be a part of this change. With my management background, I hope to provide the energy and support to see the region move forward with continued innovative and engaging activities and professional development.

Provide any additional comments or information (either personal or leadership-related) that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered elsewhere in your platform information.

As with most of us, my work life has been anything but linear. I though I would provide a quick history as it may help illuminate my previous experience:

  • 1986 – 1990, Residence Life Positions (RA, Student Manager, etc.)
  • 1990 – 2000, Director of Audit for publicly traded company
  • 2001 – 2006, Director of Student Services (School of Business – Portland State)
