Statement:
Highlight
your previous involvement within this unit that will help
you in leading this unit. What roles have you played within
this particular unit as a member thus far? |
I
have not been as involved as I would have liked, but I have attended
commission meetings at conferences, and been as a member of the
listserv. I initiated and presented as part of a panel on advising
adults at the 2006 NACADA conference. I attended a meeting on the
monograph and subsequently helped with the adult learner chapter
for the 2007 NACADA monograph.
What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives
for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and
the Association ?
Since
most of us cannot attend conferences, we must rely on web sites
and listservs for information and networking. The most important
goal is communication, with initiatives to keep the web site current,
and to provide opportunities for networking and resources. I would
like to work on providing more research data, especially outcomes
and assessment in the area of advising adults. I urge us all to
share our ideas and best practices in serving adult learners by
using our state, regional and national conferences, newsletters
and the listserv.
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or
what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I
have gained so much from NACADA and its members, that I would appreciate
the opportunity to serve others in the organization as the commission
chair. I enjoy networking with others and sharing resources and
best practices. I have the time, experience and the support of my
institution and colleagues to serve in this capacity at this time.
Provide any additional comments or information (either
personal or leadership-related)
that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered
elsewhere in your platform information.
