Statement:
Highlight
your previous involvement within this unit that will help
you in leading this unit. What roles have you played within
this particular unit as a member thus far? |
As a member of
the Advising Education Majors Commission since its conception, I
have a history with this group. This time and experience has afforded
me the opportunity to work with colleagues to prepare, propose,
and present four different national conference presentations. These
presentations have been with colleagues from my institution as well
as a presentation with colleagues from other colleges and universities.
I met these colleagues through the Advising Education Majors Commission.
My experience with presenting has assisted me in my role as Advising
Education Majors Presentation Committee Head and as a Steering Committee
member. As the Presentation Committee Chair, I encouraged collaboration
between colleges and universities in sending presentation proposals
for the national conference. I worked to increase communication,
collaboration, understanding, and interactions between advisors
of education majors from many different schools throughout the United
States and Canada.
What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives
for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and
the Association ?
One goal that I would like to encourage is more collaboration and
opportunity for involvement for the commission members. Members
of this commission are very knowledgeable and capable. Sharing our
ideas and learning about best practices in our field from each other
is important to this commission. Many of the members of this commission
would like to be more involved in presentations at conferences and/or
would like to be published. I would like to encourage this involvement
and provide direction.
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or
what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
Leadership in the commission is important to me because I would
like to share my strong leadership skills to promote collaboration,
communication, and access to writing and presentation. I have a
lot to offer this commission because of my experiences and education.
I have learned so much from NACADA and my colleagues and have been
able to bring these ideas to my own institution. This leadership
position will allow me to encourage and facilitate the same opportunities
for other members of this commission.
Provide any additional comments or information (either
personal or leadership-related)
that you want potential voters to know about you that is not covered
elsewhere in your platform information.
I want to thank you for considering me for the position of Education
Majors Commission Chair. I have been working with education majors
since 1999 and directly advising education majors since 2000. I
am versed in the unique advising needs of education majors as it
pertains to major choices, professional education requirements,
accreditation, and the blending of state laws, federal regulations,
and university/college procedures. My advising experience is with
undergraduate students in elementary education, secondary education,
special education, and other K-12 majors, with post-baccalaureate
initial certification students in elementary education and secondary
education, and with continuing certification students adding elementary
endorsements. I would like the opportunity to use this experience
and the experience that I have with NACADA and the Advising Education
Majors Commission to continue to encourage collaboration and communication
within this commission.
