Statement:
Highlight
your previous involvement within this unit that will help
you in leading this unit. What roles have you played within
this particular unit as a member thus far? |
I have been involved with NACADA since my first regional conference in 2002 and have been increasingly active in recent years. Since 2007, I have been part of the steering committee for the Advising Transfer Students commission and have been involved with the review of the web site for this commission as well.
What do you believe are the most important goals and initiatives
for this unit in meeting the strategic plan for both the unit and
the Association?
As more and more students are identified as "transfer" students, either in the traditional 2 to 4 year path or in the various other ways that students transfer (2 to 2, 4 to 4, swillers, etc) it becomes even more urgent that we work across traditional boundaries to assist our students. The goal of true collaboration, when accomplished, would have the most significant impact on our work and our students.
I also believe that this collaboration will not be achieved by continual leadership from a small group. As commission chair, I would seek to expand the involvement of newer members in order that they might see how NACADA can be a benefit in their work.
Why are you interested in serving in this leadership position or
what influenced you to run for this leadership position?
I am interested in serving in this leadership position because transfer students are my passion. Since my first position in higher education more than 10 years ago as an admissions counselor for transfer students to my current position providing a range of student services at an associates degree granting institution, I have worked on behalf of my students for both their academic and social integration. I would treasure the opportunity to advance this work to a position in NACADA.
