February Deadlines
Dear Members,
NACADA is excited to announce a new website
-- in addition to new colors and a new look, we believe the new
site will be easier for you to navigate to find the information
you desire. I want to thank the great team from the Executive Office
who has worked diligently for the past four months developing this
new and improved service for our members!
The link to our new
site remains:
www.nacada.ksu.edu
Please change any electronic bookmarks
you may have to pages/specific parts of the site you may use frequently.
Those addresses have mostly changed.
Our goal is to continually improve the
services we offer to our members and this new Website is one way
of accomplishing this goal! Please let us know if you have suggestions
that would make the website more useful for you.
Sincerely,
Bobbie Flaherty
Executive Director
National
Conference (Conference
Website)
Deadline:
February 10! Only a few days left to submit a proposal for
the fall conference in Dallas. You may improve
your chances of securing funding for the conference if you are a
presenter or co-presenter. There will be 350 individual presentations
in several formats--concurrent, discussion, poster, and preconference
workshop. New and experienced individuals are encouraged to apply.
You can help make the conference a worthwhile forum for the exchange
of ideas by presenting a session. Visit the National
Conference website for details.
If you want to register for the national
conference early (before July 1), a form is available at the website.
This is a good way to utilize any current fiscal year budget funds
that may still be available. Adam's Mark Dallas hotel information
is also available the website.
Academic Advising
Administrators' Institute (Conference
Website)
We are excited to have such a wonderful
group to work with at our first two Administrators' Institutes.
We have 200 delegates registered for our first Institute and over
150 delegates for our second Institute. The Institute will provide
professional development specifically for those whose primary role
is the administration of advising programs, units, or services on
their campuses. We are looking forward to two great Institutes in
San Antonio, Texas, February 12-14 & 15-17, 2003.
Academic Advising
Summer Institute (Conference
Website)
The Choice is Yours! We are offering this
week-long, intensive program in two locations, San Diego, CA, June
22-27, and St. Charles, Illinios (Chicago area), July 27-Aug 1.
General sessions, workshops, topical sessions and small group discussions
led by skilled practitioners all function to help teams and individuals
develop strategies for enhancing or refining advising services on
higher education campuses. Registrations are limited, so make your
plans early to register and attend. We look forward to working with
you and your team to help make student success a continuing reality
at your campus.

Clearinghouse
Feature
APA (American Psychological
Association) recently released the results of a Kansas State
University study detailing how the type and severity of student
problems have changed over the last thirteen years. Findings
of this study will surprise few advisors since advisors are
often the "first line of referral" to counseling services.
This month the Clearinghouse features the University
of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Virtual Counseling Site with its
tips for dealing with over 100 self-help topics. Advisors can
utilize these tips to "plug the dike" as they make
referrals to counseling services.
Lose the link? No problem. Find links to this and other useful
resources in the
Clearinghouse.
