in the NACADA Highlights.

Submissions must meet the following criteria:
- Articles
that discuss advising or advising issues should be from non-advising
publications (periodicals such as journals, newspapers, or on-line
newsletters)
- Articles
must be published in a copyrighted state, regional (multi-state),
or national print-based or web publication
- Articles
must be published within the last 8 weeks
- Articles
must be readily accessible to individuals (college library must
be able to obtain the article through appropriate channels, e.g.,
interlibrary loan)
Submit the article
as a reference citation (APA style) giving the article title, name(s)
of the author(s), publication name, volume and issue (if applicable),
and where article can be found (Web link to the article or the publication).
NACADA
will not include submissions for commercial promotion.

Congratulations to the 2004 award recipients
in the NACADA National Awards Program. All award recipients will
be formally honored during the NACADA National Conference in Cincinnati
this fall. This year's award recipients include the Pacesetter
Award and Service to NACADA Award winners, 18 Outstanding Advising
Award winners, 31 Outstanding Advising Certificates of Merit,
4 Outstanding New Advisor Award winners, 8 Outstanding New Advisor
Certificates of Merit, 4 Outstanding Program Award winners, 6
Outstanding Program Certificates of Merit, 3 Electronic Publication
Award winners, 5 Electronic Publication Certificates of Merit,
2 NACADA Scholarships, 4 Summer Institute Scholarships, 1 Student
Research Award, and 3 Service to Commission Awards. The Research
Grant awards will be announced in July.

The National Conference
on Academic Advising will be held Wednesday, October 6-Saturday,

- Dr. Nancy L. Zimpher,
the first woman president of the University of Cincinnati, will
speak at the opening plenary Wednesday evening. Her research
in education will set the tone for an excellent conference.

humorist and professional speaker, will speak Friday morning
on Humor Helps Us Build the Bridges -how our sense
of humor can help us find more joy in our important work of
helping students succeed in higher education and life.

not be in time to be printed in the awards booklet distributed
at the conference, these retirees will still receive an Emeritus
pin from NACADA.

for publication. NACADA members may review and publish one book

NACADA is pleased to announce that Ruby
Mason has agreed to serve as the new Chair for the Health Professions
Advising Interest Group. Ruby is replacing Nancy Walburn who is
stepping down from this leadership role in preparation for serving
her 3-year term on the NACADA Board of Directors beginning this
fall. NACADA truly appreciates all the work that Nancy has done
over the past few years in representing this interest group.

nominations will be due to the Executive Office by
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2004.
