College Student Advising Interest Group Members
From: Joe Murray, Chair
Greetings
to all members of NACADA's First-Generation College Student Advising
Interest Group!!
I am excitied to let you know about some upcoming planned communications
with members via our interest group listserve. The subjects for
these communications were suggested at the NACADA conference in
Indianapolis last fall. We invite your conversation, questions,
input, etc. via the interest group listserve.
To be a part of this conversation, you must join the interest
group listserve -- for instructions to subscribe, visit
www.nacada.ksu.edu/InterestGroups/C31/listserve.htm.
All topics for discussion will be posted to the interest group
listserve address (N-TRIO-L
@LISTSERV.KSU.EDU).
The first communication for discussion will be presented soon
by Chris Bennett Klefeker , Academic Adviser
and Retention Specialist at Miami University- Hamilton Campus. Chris
would like to start a conversation about how we can better serve
the largely First Generation student population of foster care
youth and further our efforts in retaining this truly at-risk
population. She will include links to free resources compiled
for use in working with these students as well as her notes highlighting
some of the key things she learned recently at the Second
National Convening of Postsecondary Education Support Programs
for Former Foster Youth Conference. Questions
for discussion will include "Do other schools work with this population
directly?", "What programs/services do you offer?", and "What
have you learned that could help other schools as they support
foster care students at their schools?"
Join us for these discussions on the listserve! If you have ideas
for additional topics, let us know.
Thanks for your interest,
Joe
