Duties

Responsibilities include tracking students’ progress towards degree completion, overseeing one extension site, conducting outreach/recruitment of prospective students, assisting with special events as needed (open houses, graduation reception, alumni reunions, etc), and coordinating credit certificate programs.

Required Qualifications

Position Description

The Academic Dean’s Office for Undergraduate Advising is seeking a full-time advising professional to collaborate with others to develop and implement academic interventions and manage the delivery of advising services to upper-class undeclared students needing to advance towards a major and/or establish good academic standing. Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Academic Dean’s Office. Represent the Academic Dean and respond to matters in his absence.

Duties

Duties include the direction and supervision of staff; lead advising outreach activities; develop advising materials, prepare reports, and utilize technology to support advising effectiveness; chair the Undergraduate Advising Scholastic Review Committee; assist the Academic Dean with academic discipline decision appeals and student petitions. Intervene with students and parents regarding the academic discipline process and respond to matters in the Academic Dean’s absence. This position is responsible for the direct delivery of student advising services through one-to-one and group advising sessions. This position will also assist with the development of effective advising resources and publications that result in the continuous improvement of existing services.

Duties

Assistant Dean

Position Description

The Assistant Dean of Academic Services at Brandeis University provides leadership to all programs promoting undergraduate and post-graduate academic scholarship opportunities within the Office of Academic Service. Develops short and long term goals for these programs and conducts evaluation of the different services provided. Collaborates with various campus offices, colleges and universities, and foundations. Serves as the Director of Pre-Health Advising and provides both managerial and direct service in the implementation of this program. Assists with the management of the Office of Academic Services.

Duties

- Supervises directly the Director of Academic Fellowships and Scholarships, the Program Manager for Lerman-Neubauer Scholars, and a Departmental Coordinator. Provides general oversight to all staff who provide services to current and potential Scholars. Develop cross-departmental strategic plans for assisting students, and develop quantitative and qualitative measures for understanding each program's success. Assists with the management of the Office of Academic Services as needed. Represent the Office of Academic Services and the Division of Students and Enrollment on university committees.

- Oversees the budget of all scholar programs. Ensures that the pre-health budget is being used to support all pre-health students on campus. Ensures other scholars funds are being used in a way that promotes a culture of academic research on campus.

- Directs a program of advising for students and alumni interested in applying to health professions schools. Directly advise students in a caring and supportive manner, regardless of their current level of academic achievement. This includes advising individual students, facilitating group information sessions, and overseeing the interview process with the University's Premedical Board of Advisors (this interview is required of all students and graduates seeking a recommendation from the University). Coordinate Tufts Early Assurance Program. Composes approximately 100 institutional letters of recommendation.

- Develops and maintains relationships with academic departments and faculty regarding pre-health advising. Supervises the premedical Board of Advisors, including recruiting new members, informing the members of upcoming deadlines and trends in medical school admissions, and soliciting feedback for improvement to the pre-health advising process. Acts as a liaison to internal and external constituencies regarding health professions advising. This includes acting as the University's pre-health professions spokesperson at admissions and orientation events, and communicating as needed with medical and other health profession schools.

- Designs and publishes written and electronic informational materials for pre-health profession students and other constituents including a web site, a handbook, a brochure, and a packet for students wishing to apply to health profession schools.

- Manages the post-bac pre-medical program. Screen and accept applicants, provide academic advising and assist with the medical school admissions process.

Required Qualifications

Masters Degree Required. Must have 5-8 years of progressively responsible administrative experience working in an advising capacity. History of developing effective models for pre-health, academic fellowships, or merit scholarship support, including the creation and implementation of new programs and services. Requires good interpersonal/counseling skills suitable for working collaboratively and effectively with students, faculty, staff, outside service providers, and foundations. Must have a strong commitment to diversity and to serving all students. Requires strong communication skills (written and verbal. Previous supervisory experience including the ability to lead staff to accomplish project goals. Experience in program administration including developing and monitoring budgets and in conducting quantitative and qualitative program evaluation. Must be able to work as a part of a team.

Academic Advisor

Position Description

Reporting to the Director of the Advising Center, the Academic Advisor is responsible for advising undeclared students and students in transition. Using standard assessment tools (MBTI, Strong, FOCUS), the Advisor will support each student in a decision-making process that results in an informed decision about choice of major and core concentration. The Advisor will work closely with each student’s assigned faculty advisor to ensure a smooth transition from the Advising Center program to the assigned faculty advisor.

Duties

Additional responsibilities will include either writing and formatting the Advisor Newsletter or maintaining the department’s website. This position is expected to participate in Freshman Orientation, develop and present workshops, serve on University committees as assigned, and assist the Director in developing a professional development program for faculty advisors.

Required Qualifications
