Position Description

George Mason University Scholars Office seeks an Assistant Director for its University Scholars Program. The University Scholars Program is a four-year undergraduate merit scholarship and program for students that have outstanding records for academics, service, leadership and community involvement. We are searching for a professional to work with a diverse staff in an energetic environment and who is committed to holistic student development, has experience in advising undergraduate students, as well as program planning, development and implementation. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of the University Scholars Office.

Duties

The primary responsibilities for the Assistant Director will be to develop, manage, coordinate and provide leadership for the implementation of educational, retention, recognition and alumni-related programming. Also, the Assistant Director will advise students about leadership, service, community involvement and scholarly opportunities. The Assistant Director will assist with the administration of the University Scholars Living and Learning Community, the associated University 100 course, the scholars learning lounge, as well as assist with programs related to undergraduate research and global education. In addition, the successful candidate will provide guidance and oversight to student-led committees and the University Scholars Mentoring Program. The person will assist with international and domestic student recruitment, enrollment and support services, as well as program assessment and the development of annual reports.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree and equivalent experience required. The candidate must possess demonstrated experience working in a higher education setting, possessing skills and knowledge in the areas of student development, advising, administration, program planning and assessment. The individual must possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; and have strong public speaking and organizational skills. The ability to advise a diverse population of undergraduate students is very important. Incumbent must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Position Description

Penn State Mont Alto invites applications for the position of Director of Academic Support Center (multi-year faculty appointment, 36 weeks) to begin January 2009, or as negotiated.

Duties

Responsibilities: This position will initially be a 50% appointment, with 50% of the time devoted to teaching; this time allocation may change as the needs of the campus change. The Academic Support Center oversight responsibilities include coordinating, planning and implementing activities and programs assigned to the Center, including disability services, tutoring, and other student support and retention activities; supervision of professional and peer tutors; hiring, training, and developing professional staff; administering assigned budgets; coordinating workshops and seminars; overseeing the administration of current grants; and the preparation of grant renewal proposals and new grant proposals. The faculty teaching responsibilities include teaching introductory courses in counselor education such as Peer Tutoring and special communication topics such as Developmental Listening. The Director will be expected to participate in professional organizations, course development, curriculum matters, program development, and campus, college, university, and community service activities. The Academic Support Center is part of the Student Success Center, which includes Academic Advising and Career Counseling.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Education or Educational Psychology and at least two years of related work experience in both instruction and learning support. Excellent communication and leadership skills required. Experience with grant writing and administration is preferred.

Position Description

The Learning Specialist for the Student Athlete Academic Advising & Support Center works directly with student-athletes who have a variety of learning styles—and with those with disabilities—to identify their learning styles and to create effective strategies to foster academic success. The Learning Specialist will assist with identifying possible learning disabilities and differences, coordinating referrals leading to appropriate testing and diagnosis—and will act as liaison to the Office of Disability Resources and Services (DRS). In addition, the Learning Specialist works directly with student-athletes and with Center and other colleagues (academic advisors, support coordinators and the compliance and certification officers) in a case management model—to provide and coordinate a full range of support in addressing student athletes’ academic, personal, career and social concerns.

Duties
