Description
The University
of Iowa invites applications for the position of Peer Educator
Coordinator for the newly-established Learning Communities Program.
The Learning Communities Program at Iowa encompasses living-learning
communities and linked-courses learning communities, both of which
will entail significant involvement by undergraduate peer educators.
The Peer
Educator Coordinator position is a 12-month, full-time professional
staff appointment (Program Associate I) to begin no later than
December 1, 2008; the Coordinator can expect to work nights and
weekends on a regular basis. Annual salary $37,624 to commensurate.
Duties
The Peer
Educator Coordinator has primary responsibility for the development
and implementation of the peer education component of the Learning
Communities Program; specific tasks and roles include recruitment,
training and supervision of peer educators; development, implementation,
and assessment of peer-led seminars and out-of-class experiences;
collaboration with faculty and staff on programs and projects
related to peer educators and learning communities; and collaboration
with the Learning Communities Executive Committee on strategies
to develop and improve the Learning Communities Program. The Coordinator
also will serve as a campus-wide resource on peer education.
Required
Qualifications
•Master’s
degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling or related
field;
•6 months
to 1 year of professional experience with college students in
out-of-class educational settings; •Knowledge of, and experience
with, peer education, including hiring, training, and supervision
of peer educators; program development, implementation, and assessment;
research on college student success; •Strong communication (written
and oral), interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; and •Must
be proficient in computer software applications.
Preferred
Qualifications
•Postsecondary
teaching experience and eligibility for appointment as an adjunct
faculty member.

Position Description
Dickinson State University is seeking highly qualified applicants
for the position Director of the Academic Success Center (ASC).
The Center provides unique learning opportunities for students
and faculty in the area of academic excellence. It provides direct
services to students through academic assistance, monitoring,
and intervention designed to help students succeed in the university
environment.
Duties
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Development, the director
supervises, implements and administers all aspects of the Center
including policies and procedures, budget and finance, and strategic
planning. In addition to managing the ASC, the director is also
responsible for the supervision of learning assistance services
for Dickinson State University, including services to students
with disabilities, the writing center, peer tutoring and First
Year Experience programming.
Required Qualifications
A Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Student Personnel
Services, Counseling, or related field is required. A minimum
of five
years experience in a progressively responsible position in an
educational setting, preferably a community college or university
environment, is required. Strong organizational abilities and
superior interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
are essential for success in this position.
Preferred Qualifications
A Ph.D. is strongly preferred. Candidates who have used Academic
Intervention Techniques, who have knowledge of issues facing first
generation students or possess experience in academic administration,
will be given first preference.
