Duties

The Student Success Coordinator (SSC) will serve the academic, personal, and career needs of assigned student-athletes in both the day and evening programs. The SSC will develop, deliver, and monitor interventions for student-athletes for maintaining NCAA eligibility. He or she must have working knowledge of NCAA guidelines for continuing eligibility and of developing appropriate APR plans. Meetings with students, working in study hall programs, collaborating with coaching staff, compliance officer, course instructors, and other academic support staff, comprise the bulk of the job. Other duties include collecting and reporting data, strategic planning following year-end outcomes, participating in recruiting and information events, and attending team meetings, sporting events, and other honorary events for student-athletes. Position Description

Position: Academic Coaches work with head coaches, athletics directors and school administrators at participating Play It Smart member schools, in helping student-athletes take responsibility for their futures through lessons learned on the playing field, in the classroom, and in service to others. Typically hired or contracted by schools or school districts, academic coaches receive extensive training and support from Play It Smart in establishing and implementing year-round programming that enables student-athletes to achieve academic, career, athletic, and personal goals. Both part-time and full time positions exist throughout the country. The Academic Coach needs time during the school day as well as after school to perform job duties. Students in graduate level programs may use the Play It Smart experience as fieldwork or an internship.

Duties

Job Responsibilities:

1. Attend annual Play It Smart conference and training;

2. Act as a caring-adult mentor and provide academic and career counseling to student-athletes;

3. Create an academic support system in collaboration with school administrators and school personnel (i.e. study tables, monitoring, tutoring, one-on-one meetings, etc.);

4. Ensure SAT/ACT test preparation and test taking;

5. Educate student athletes and parents about NCAA Clearinghouse eligibility; support and track student progress toward NCAA eligibility;

6. Conduct life skills workshops and provide leadership opportunities for student athletes to develop transferable skills;

Required Qualifications

Qualifications: The Academic Coach position requires: a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (graduate degree preferred) in a related field of counseling, education, psychology, or sociology; experience working with high school aged students; and an understanding of working with diverse populations in challenging environments. A demonstrated appreciation of interscholastic athletics is also preferred. The position requires the ability to carry out multiple responsibilities ranging from counseling in a one-on-one setting, to managing small and large groups. Other qualifications include:

1. Proven ability to build relationships with a broad range of people;

Academic Advisor

Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional & Community Planning

College of Architecture, Planning & Design (CAPD)

The Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning is searching for an Academic Advisor who has an interest in the design professions and in helping students complete their curriculum path. The Academic Advisor works closely with departmental faculty and students while coordinating with college and graduate school staff.

 

Job responsibilities include:

•  organizes, maintains and prepares reports on student grades, enrollment, course fulfillment and related tasks using CAPD database, iSIS , DARS and MS Office suite;

•  maintains close coordination with faculty to be aware of student issues and progress;

•  prepares written communications to students and offices;

•  maintains course schedule and electronic catalog using appropriate software;

•  communicates, coordinates and facilitates admissions process for department with undergraduates (Non-Baccalaureate) and graduate (Post-Baccalaureate) students;

•  serves as liaison for department to CAPD Office, KSU Graduate School and other departments of the CAPD;

•  participates in orientations, information and policy / decision-making meetings regarding admission and enrollment of students with respect to study abroad, internship and international students;

•  prepares student handbooks and other material to disseminate current information to students and faculty; and

•  participates in departmental faculty course and curriculum meetings / activities.

 

Required qualifications include:

•  bachelor’s degree in Student Services or related field;

•  one year experience in advising at the baccalaureate level selecting, scheduling and enrolling in courses that fulfill appropriate curricular requirements, counseling and monitoring students concerning academic progress;

•  experience in supervising academic records and files;

•  progressively responsible experience using MS Office suite (Access, Excel and Word);

•  experience in determining statistical needs and compile / analyze same;

•  well developed and tactful oral and written communication skills;

•  organizational and planning skills with ability to multi-task;

•  ability to maintain confidentiality; and

•  proven quality inter-personal skills.

 

Preferred qualifications include:

•  familiarity with iSIS and DARS student record systems;

•  affinity and / or experience with the design professions;

•  understanding as to how department offices function and impact advising; and

•  experience with this level of coordination and understanding of varied curricula requirements.

 

Starting salary: Negotiable depending upon experience and qualifications. Full-time, unclassified, 12 month appointment; K-State benefit eligible.

 

Timeline: Review of applications will begin on September 2, 2008, and continue until suitable candidate is found. Start date will be immediate.
