Required Sessions at Regional Conferences:
There are 5 required events that need to happen at all Regional Conferences
1. NACADA Orientation for First-Time Conference Attendees
2. Welcome and Highlights from Board/EO representative
3. A Conversation with NACADA Leadership and EO Representative
4. "Writing for NACADA" will be offered at each Region Conference and will be lead by the Executive Office Visitor and/or the Board member in regions where there is not a Research Committee Member to lead this.
5. Region Business Meeting
NOTE: "Conducting Research" may be submitted on-line by members of the Research Committee and these will be offered as concurrent sessions, not necessarily preconference workshops. Please accept these sessions if they are submitted.
1. NACADA ORIENTATION - On preconference day (usually)
- Title in Printed Program: “NACADA Orientation for First-Time Conference Attendees”
- Led by EO Rep and NACADA Board Members
- 1 hour, no charge
- AFTER preconference workshops & BEFORE other activities (generally)
- Needs to be only event happening at this time.
- ABSTRACT: On your campus, you know the value of orientation for new students is to be involved early with each other and begin to build lasting connections to the campus. If this is your first time at this regional conference, attending our NACADA Introduction is REQUIRED! Come meet new members ,as well as members of the NACADA leadership, and learn about the exciting association of which you are now a part.
2. Welcome and Highlights - At First General Session:
- Title in Printed Program: “Welcome & Highlights from _________ “
- Board member and/or EO Rep welcomes all to NACADA, helps participants connect with the Association
- May recognized national award winners & national leaders from the region
- Brief overview of major initiatives of Association
- NOTE: NACADA will send list of Association award winners and the NACADA leaders to print in your program. You will probably want to add a list of your regional award and scholarship winners and your regional leaders to the program as well.
3. A Conversation with NACADA Leadership and Executive Office Representative" as a Concurrent Session
- Title in Printed Program: “A Conversation with NACADA Leadership & Executive Office Representative”
- Led by EO Rep, Region and other NACADA leaders
- Offered as a 1 hour concurrent session. Can be at same time other concurrents are offered.
- Opportunity for members and leaders to discuss NACADA initiatives of current interest. All welcome.
- ABSTRACT: This informal discussion is to provide a forum for attendees to visit with NACADA Leaders regarding the Association’s many initiatives and programs, leadership opportunities, and to give participants an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions.
4. "Writing for NACADA" will be offered at each Region Conference and will be submitted through proposal system. Please accept this proposal.
- Title in Program: Writing for NACADA: The NACADA Journal, Academic Advising Today, the Clearinghouse and Monographs
- Led by the Executive Office Visitor and/or the Board member in regions where there is not a Research Committee Member to lead this.
- There are many opportunities to write for NACADA. Articles authored from the ranks of advising practitioners, faculty advisors, researchers, and theorists appear in NACADA publications. While NACADA publishes books, video-dvd-cds, and brochures, the primary focus in this session will be to describe the purpose, content, writing guidelines, and acceptance process for the NACADA Journal, Academic Advising Today, the Clearinghouse and Monographs. Whatever your interests in professional writing, this session will help you understand the various writing opportunities within NACADA.
5. Region Business Meeting - Timing at the discretion of the Region Chair
- Title in Printed Program: “Region Business Meeting”
- Purpose is to conduct the business of the region.
- Review region projects, progress
- Financial reports
- Discussion of new and old business
- Voting on any bylaws changes
- Etc.
