NACADA Region 1 Award & Scholarship Information

NACADA Region 1 Member:

Each award and scholarship has specific criteria and application process.  The awards and scholarships available for 2012 are:

  • Region 1 Advising Administrator Scholarships for administrators who actively support academic advising on their campus and who will attend the 2012 Region 1 Conference in Foxwoods/MGM Grand, CT.  This scholarship will pay the annual NACADA membership fee and the Regional Conference registration fee.  A nomination is required – please see the separate Advising Administrator Scholarship nomination form below. (2)
  • $500 Scholarship to the NACADA Winter Seminar (Creating a Campus Culture for Student Persistence: Academic Advising as Teaching and Learning) on February 13-14, 2012 in San Diego, CA. (1)

We are pleased to offer these awards & scholarships to our Region 1 Members.  Detailed information on the Institutes, Seminar and Region 1 Conference is available at www.nacada.ksu.edu.  The criteria and applications for these awards and scholarships are below. 

Instructions for On-Line Submission:

  1. Enter a password - this can be simple and you can use the same one for other submissions
  2. Select your Region.
  3. Then select the award for which you are applying from the "Awards/Scholarship Category" drop down box.
  4. Be sure to write down your Award/Scholarship Nomination Number and your password, so if you have to stop and come back to the nomination form, you can do so easily! It will also be in your confirmation e-mail.
  5. Enter the information as it is requested. NOTE: The NOTIFICATION section is for you to list those people who you would want to know if you are selected for this award/scholarship. We would suggest your president/provost, your supervisors, your public relations department.
  6. You will need to upload some documents. They must be in pdf form. As these are different for each award, please see the Region Awards page for more information before you begin the submission process. you can leave and come back as long as you have not hit the SUBMIT button.

Deadline for Institute and Seminar Scholarships is December 15, 2011
Deadline for Scholarships to the Region 1 Conference is January 27, 2012
Deadline for Excellence in Advising Awards is February 24, 2012

Region 1 Scholarships
Region 1 is pleased to announce many wonderful scholarships offered to our members.  In addition to offering scholarships for the yearly NACADA Institutes and Seminar, we are also offering scholarships for Region 1 Presenters, New Advisors, Graduate Students, and Advising Administrators.  We sincerely want to assist our members in defraying the cost of attending the annual Region 1 Conference.  The NACADA Institutes, the Winter Seminar and the Region 1 Conference are wonderful professional development opportunities that we hope you won’t miss!

Region 1 Presenter Scholarships
Criteria:
  • You must be a current member of NACADA
  • You must have held your current job position for at least one year
  • You must have submitted a proposal and had it accepted to present at the 2012 Region 1 Conference in Foxwoods/MGM Grand, CT

Submission Procedures:
Please provide the following information:

  1. Resume/Vita
  2. Professional Development Activities: Please list any NACADA or other professional development activities in which you have participated.
  3. Scholarship Information: Give a brief description of the goals you hope to accomplish by attending the 2011 Region 1 Conference. In what ways would you like to extend your involvement in NACADA, especially in Region 1?
  4. Please attach a letter of recommendation from your direct supervisor, which must include a statement of financial support for your travel/hotel expenses if you are awarded a scholarship by NACADA Region 1 (unless you are paying yourself – then please have your supervisor state so).

Region 1 New Advisors Scholarship
Criteria:

  • You must be a current member of NACADA
  • You must be new to the Advising field (3 years or less)
  • You must attend the 2012 Region 1 Conference in Foxwoods/MGM Grand, CT

Submission Procedures:

  1. Resume/Vita
  2. Professional Development Activities: Please list any NACADA or other professional development activities in which you have participated.
  3. Scholarship Information: Give a brief description of the goals you hope to accomplish by attending the 2011 Region 1 Conference. In what ways would you like to extend your involvement in NACADA, especially in Region 1?
  4. Please attach a letter of recommendation from your direct supervisor, which must include a statement of financial support for your travel/hotel expenses if you are awarded a scholarship by NACADA Region 1 (unless you are paying yourself – then please have your supervisor state so).

Region 1 Graduate Student Scholarship
Criteria:

  • You must be a current graduate student
  • You must be a current student member of NACADA
  • You must attend the 2012 Region 1 Conference in Foxwoods/MGM Grand, CT
  • You must agree to volunteer during the conference- with registration, session evaluations, the hospitality table, etc.

Submission Procedures:
Please provide the following information:

  1. Resume/Vita
  2. Professional Development Activities: Please list any NACADA or other professional development activities in which you have participated.
  3. Scholarship Information: Give a brief description of the goals you hope to accomplish by attending the 2011 Region 1 Conference. In what ways would you like to extend your involvement in NACADA, especially in Region 1?
  4. Please attach a letter of recommendation from your direct supervisor, which must include a statement of financial support for your travel/hotel expenses if you are awarded a scholarship by NACADA Region 1 (unless you are paying yourself – then please have your supervisor state so).

Region 1 Advising Administrator Scholarship
Criteria:

  • The nominee must be an Advising Administrator who actively supports advising at his/her institution
  • The nominee must have held his/her current job position for at least one year
  • The nominee must be nominated by a current NACADA member
  • The nominee must attend the 2012 Region 1 Conference in Foxwoods/MGM Grand, CT

Academic Advising Administrators' Institute Scholarship

Criteria:

  • You must be a current member of NACADA
  • You must have held your current position for at least one year
  • You must have attended at least one regional or national NACADA conference
  • You must be willing to write a short article summarizing your experience at the Institute or Seminar for the regional newsletter

Submission Procedures:
Please provide the following information:

  1. Resume/Vita
  2. Professional Development Activities: Please list any NACADA or other professional development activities in which you have participated.
  3. Scholarship Information: Give a brief description of the goals you hope to accomplish by attending the 2011 Region 1 Conference, Administrators’ Institute, Assessment Institute or Winter Seminar. In what ways would you like to extend your involvement in NACADA, especially in Region 1?
  4. Please attach a letter of recommendation from your direct supervisor, which must include a statement of financial support for your travel/hotel expenses if you are awarded a scholarship by NACADA Region 1 (unless you are paying yourself – then please have your supervisor state so).

Region 1 Excellence in Advising Awards
Good advising, like good teaching, publication and research, should be recognized for the valuable contributions it brings to our campuses. By honoring individuals who advise within NACADA Region One, we hope to bring more deserved recognition and respect to the important role that Academic Advisors play in higher education. Please take the time to thoughtfully acknowledge the work of an advising professional who deserves such recognition, or pass this information on to colleagues who may be interested in nominating a conference participant.

Any colleague may nominate a registered conference participant from NACADA Region One to receive an Academic Advising Excellence Award. These Awards were instituted in order to recognize individuals in our region who have demonstrated qualities associated with excellence in the academic advising of students or excellence in academic advising administration. Decisions are made by the NACADA Region One Scholarships and Awards Committee


Region 1 Excellence in Advising - Primary Role
Region 1 Excellence in Advising - Faculty
Region 1 Excellence in Advising - Advising Administration


Nominees must:
          • Be members of NACADA
          • Be registered for the Region One 2012 conference
          • Have worked in the advising profession for a minimum of one year prior to January 1, 2012.
