Region 1 Conference ~ March 11-13, 2009 ~ Saratoga Springs, NY

Call for Proposals

What changes are on the horizon for academic advising? In higher education? How do we prepare for change? How do we help students deal with change? How do we cope with change? How do we embrace change in our institutions? In our lives?

If you have ideas, research or best practices to share about embracing change, plan to come to Saratoga Springs, New York to present at the Region 1 conference.  Advisors in the Northeast have counted on the Region One conference to provide proven programs of advising success for twenty five years.  For advising administrators, faculty advisors, administrative professionals and seasoned or new advisors alike, the Region One conference delivers innovation and offers great opportunities to network, reconnect and recharge.

We rely on our members to submit a variety of topics for presentation. If you would like to see more variety or different topics presented at the Region One Conference, be sure to submit a presentation proposal!

Looking for a specific topic idea for a presentation? Based on feedback from the 2008 conference, Region 1 advisors are interested in hearing more about how we can Embrace Change around:

  • The future of distance learning
  • Legal & ethical issues in Advising
  • How changing technology affects Advising
  • Two-year and Community Colleges
  • Career paths & opportunities for careers in Academic Advising
  • Research in Academic Advising
  • Faculty Advising – particularly training and development ideas
  • Working with and Advising special populations – difficult students, multicultural students, student athletes, students with disabilities, international students, probation students etc…
  • Supervising professional or student staff
  • Working the “front line” in Advising – dealing with advising issues as an administrative professional

Submit proposals online - (link to come)

Specific instructions and proposal details are provided.

Submission deadline is October ____, 2008

Great sessions, great networking and great giveaways were featured at the Region 1 Conference. Many thanks to the more than 300 participants who joined us at the Eastland Park Hotel and special thanks to keynote speaker Susan Campbell (view presentation) for an inspiring address on Advising at the Intersection.

Congratulations to Best of Region winners Jim Peacock from Kennebec Valley Community College and Kristina Ierardi from Cape Cod Community College. Their concurrent session "Online Career Resources for Advisors" was voted Best of Region 1. Jim and Kristina will represent Region 1 at the NACADA National Conference in Chicago in October.
