Presented
to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding
academic advising of students or outstanding academic advising administration.
Award:
Winners will be honored
at the 2008 Regional Conference, and receive a complimentary basic
registration for the 2008 Regional and National Conferences, and
a recognition plaque.
Eligibility:
Any individual serving
as an academic advisor, or faculty academic advisor and employed
by a regionally accredited post-secondary institution may be nominated.
NACADA membership is not required.
Criteria:
The Selection Committee
will evaluate nominations on the evidence of qualities and practices
that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor
or faculty advisor. Such evidence may include:

Procedures:
Nominations
must contain adequate factual or narrative material that describes
the extent to which an individual meets the awards criteria. Include
the following items in the order listed below and use objective
data to support the nomination.
- A completed Nomination
Form signed by the nominee and the chief administrative
officer responsible for the nominee's academic advising position.
Outstanding
Advising Award Nomination form (Primary Role/Faculty)
- A summary of the
nominee's qualifications. In this key piece, the nominator
should summarize the extent to which the nominee meets the award
criteria, citing letters of support, data, or other materials
illustrative of exemplary performance as an academic advisor.
- Nominee resume or vita
- A personal statement on advising by the nominee
- Appendices* that support the summary
(item 2), such as:
- copies of nominee's evaluations
- representative materials developed
by the nominee
- letters of support from advisees,
colleagues, and administrators
- other pertinent information from
nominator
*Appendices
should be limited to NOT MORE than 10 pages (10 sheets
of paper printed front and back). No three-ring binders. Only
materials sent with the original application packet will be considered.
Letters of support or additional materials sent separately from
the nomination packet will not be considered.
Four
(4) complete sets of the Nomination Form and supporting materials
(cannot be returned) must be submitted to arrive
no later than Friday, January 25, 2008,

NACADA
Joyce C Jackson Volunteer Award
Presented
to a Region IV NACADA member for volunteer service to the Association.

Joyce C. Jackson was a life long educator. For over 30 years, she
taught all ages and levels of school; she taught Mathematics and
Physical
Education in grades 8-12 and for the last 10 years of her life she
taught Mathematics at Coastal Georgia Community College (formerly
Brunswick College) and was actively involved in the academic advising
and new student orientation program.
Joyce was not only loved, honored, and respected for her outstanding
teaching and academic advising; she was most highly respected for
her
volunteerism; NACADA and Region IV were a love of her life; she
clearly defined volunteerism through her work on over 10 region
conferences and 5 annual conferences. Joyce did not mind being a
behind the scenes volunteer; she thrived on helping in every way
she could.
The Volunteer Award in Region IV is dedicated to Joyce in memorial
of her love of NACADA, education, and her legacy of volunteerism
in Region IV.

of involvement and membership in the organization.

Committee to evaluate the nomination, including:

Memory of Joyce Jackson, Georgia Coastal Community College)
- A supporting letter
from the nominator, providing evidence that the candidate
has made significant contributions to the National Academic Advising
Association, the profession of academic advising, leadership in
the field of advising, as well as related professional areas,
and a commitment to the importance of academic advising at a regional
level.
- Letters of support
from the following categories, colleagues, staff and students
with a minimum of one letter from each category and a maximum
of two, (a maximum of 6 letters total).
- Additional materials
that support candidate's nomination.
Four
