NACADA Region 7 Award & Scholarship Information
Each award and scholarship have specific criteria and application processes. The awards and scholarships available for 2012 are:
- Region 7 Excellence in Advising - Primary Role: This category is for individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising. Any individual serving as an academic advisor within the NACADA Region VII may be nominated.
- Region 7 Excellence in Advising - Faculty Role This category is for individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising. Any individual serving as an academic advisor within the NACADA Region VII may be nominated.
- Region 7 Student Scholarship: This scholarship is presented to a selected NACADA member who is pursuing graduate education at either the Masters or Ph.D. level. The program supports a primary goal of the organization, which is to promote professional training of advisors.
We are pleased to offer these awards and scholarships to our Region 7 Members. Detailed information on the Region 7 Conference is available at www.nacada.ksu.edu. The criteria and applications for these awards and grants are below as is the link to the on-line submission portal.
Instructions for On-Line Submission:
- Enter a password - this can be simple and you can use the same one for other submissions
- Select your Region.
- Then select the award for which you are applying from the "Awards/Scholarship Category" drop down box.
- Be sure to write down your Award/Scholarship Nomination Number and your password, so if you have to stop and come back to the nomination form, you can do so easily! It will also be in your confirmation e-mail.
- Enter the information as it is requested. NOTE: The NOTIFICATION section is for you to list those people who you would want to know if you are selected for this award/scholarship. We would suggest your president/provost, your supervisors, your public relations department.
- You will need to upload some documents. They must be in pdf form. As these are different for each award, please see the Region Awards page for more information before you begin the submission process. You can leave and come back as long as you have not hit the SUBMIT button.

Region 7 Scholarships
Region 7 Student Scholarship
To be eligible for a scholarship, nominees must be a current member of NACADA, be currently enrolled in either a masters or doctoral program and must have worked as an academic advisor for two years with a minimum of a half-time appointment. Previous Region VII Graduate Scholarship recipients are not eligible.
Entire submission may not exceed 20 pages, including all supporting materials. You will need:
- Career Goals Statement
- Official transcripts from all institutions of Higher Education that you have attended (copies are acceptable)
- Recommendation by Faculty letter
- Recommendation by Employer letter
**Ask for your recommendation from your faculty member and employer as soon as possible. They should submit it to you as a pdf document.

Region 7 Excellence in Advising Awards
Region 7 Excellence in Advising - Primary Role:
The Selection Committee will evaluate nominations on the evidence of effective advising qualities and practices that distinguish the nominee as an outstanding academic advisor. Such evidence may include, but is not limited to:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Availability to advisees, faculty and staff
- Frequency of contact with advisees
- Appropriate referral activity
- Use and dissemination of appropriate information sources
- Evidence of student success rate
- Advisee evaluations (summary data)
- Caring attitude toward advisees
- Meeting advisees in informal settings
- Intrusive behavior which builds strong relationships with advisees
- Monitoring of student progress toward academic and career goals
- Mastery of Institutional regulations, policies, and procedures
- Ability to engage in, promote, and support developmental advising (career and life planning)
- Participation in and support of advisor training programs
- Perception by colleagues of nominee's advising skills
- Evidence of administering an academic advising program that supports NACADA's Core Values
- Evidence that the advising program reflects the standards of good practice in the CAS Standards and Guidelines for Academic Advising.
On-line Submissions must contain adequate factual or descriptive material to describe the extent to which an individual meets the awards criteria. Include the following items and use objective data to support the nomination. Entire submission may not exceed 20 pages, including all supporting materials.
- A summary of the nominee's qualifications. In this key piece, the nominator should summarize the extent to which the nominee meets award criteria, citing letters of support, data, or other materials illustrative of outstanding performance as an advisor.
- A personal statement on advising.
- Optional items include
a. copies of nominee's academic advising evaluations.
b. representative materials developed by nominee.
c. letters of support from advisees, colleagues, and administrators.
d. other pertinent information from nominator.

- Evidence of student success rate, by advisor or department
- Caring, helpful attitude toward advisees, faculty and staff
- participation in and support of intrusive advising to build strong relationships with advisees
- Mastery of institutional regulations, policies, and prodecures
- Ability to engage in, promote, and support developmental advising
- Evidence of administering an academic advising program that supports NACADA's Core Values
- Evidence that the advising program reflects the standards of good practice in the CAS Standards and Guidelines for Academic Advising
- Participation in and support of advisor development programs
- Perception by colleagues of nominee's advising administration skills
- Institutional recognition of nominee for outstanding advising administration
