It's a destination with world-class cultural attractions, diverse neighborhoods and architectural wonders. COMMON READING DISCUSSION: “Racial bias, whether at the individual or collective levels, is hard to see and harder to talk about” (Bensimon, 2007, p. 454). If you work with students, then you should attend NACADA’s first Common Reading Discussion on Thursday, October 2 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. The discussion will focus on the issues of diversity presented by Estela Bensimon in The Underestimated Significance of Practitioner Knowledge in the Scholarship on Student Success. The Review of Higher Education, 30 (4), 441-469.

During the discussion of this article, participants will:

•  Consider their gaps in understanding the behavior patterns of students from racial and ethnic groups other than their own, and discuss ways to increase their multicultural competence.

•  Discuss how the significance and impact of academic advising relate to issues of racial equity in higher education.
