Goals & Objectives

Community Objectives:

  • To have current, accurate information on the website
  • To assist & promote the community’s interests
  • To allow members who are not able to attend conferences in person, the opportunity for professional growth
  • ​To promote the group’s strengths & encourage sharing within the group in a more compatible environment for many members


2020 Advising Adult Learner Community Business Meeting


2020-2021 Strategic Goals 
  • Zoom check-in meeting twice during the academic year
  • Monthly post to the Facebook page with articles, resources, etc. 
  • Maintain the community web page with updated resources 
  • Facilitate webinar on best practices to supporting adult learners (steering committee & membership run)
2019-2020 Strategic Goals and Accomplishments:
  • Zoom check-in meeting once a semester
    • Fall 2019:  Drop-in Zoom meeting held 19 Dec 2019 where participants shared best practices and were encouraged to consider submitting conference proposals and writing for NACADA.
  • Monthly post to the Facebook page with articles, resources, etc.
  • Revise and update the website (Steering Committee)
    • In Spring 2020 a working group of the Steering Committee revised the overall website and continues to enhance the list of resources.
  • Try to have a social at every annual and regional conference (Membership Driven)
    • Held at 2019 Annual NACADA Conference
    • Regional conferences in Spring 2020 were canceled due to COVID-19.
  • Partner with Technology Advising Community to have an online discussion
2018-2019 Strategic Goals and Accomplishments:
  • Understand the needs, strengths, and areas for improvement for our advising community to make sure we are meeting the needs of the community members.
    • A survey was administered to the AALC membership in Summer 2019 to help the Steering Committee better understand and address these goals.
  • To expand the concept of adult learners and advising practices, to gain knowledge on adult learners’ needs and how best to address those needs, and to provide discussion opportunities to discuss best practices regarding advising adult learners.
    • The 2019 membership survey partially helped address these goals while 2019-2020 activities are working to address other aspects.
