Position Description
As a preeminent public institution, the University of Florida has a mission to attract and yield high caliber students. The University Honors Program plays a critical role in both recruiting and fostering the success of these top achieving students. The program is home to 3300 undergraduates in all majors and colleges, with approximately ⅔ of the students interested in STEM disciplines and/or careers. In the 2019-2020 academic year, more than 11,000 students applied for approximately 700 spots in the incoming class.
Duties
This individual will serve as part of the core advising and student success team reporting to the Senior Associate Director and will serve as a liaison for several initiatives that directly support the core academic mission of the program such as admissions and orientation. Advising duties include but are not limited to meeting with prospective students and families throughout the year at admissions events, meeting with current students via appointment and express hours throughout the academic year, presenting and advising students during summer orientation (Preview), and developing other advising outreach opportunities and transition programs to best meet the needs of our students. The expected teaching assignment is 1-2 honors courses per semester, primarily focusing in the areas of first year experience and leadership / academic skill development. Opportunities to advise honors student groups, manage recruitment and transition programs and events, and other administrative responsibilities are included as part of this position. An interest in professional development is highly encouraged and supported.
