As one of the largest enrollment units for first- and second-year students at the Pennsylvania State University, the Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) seeks a positive and dynamic individual to join its academic advising program in a standing academic adviser position. In particular, DUS seeks an individual motivated to help students develop the critical decision-making skills that will enable them to identify and build meaningful academic goals for their undergraduate education at Penn State.
Additionally, academic advisers in DUS help interpret University policies, procedures, and curricular requirements. With an advising roster of approximately 250 students, DUS advisers are expected to monitor academic progress carefully to help provide the foundation for academic success. DUS advisers also play an integral role in the delivery of academic advising at New Student Orientation. Along with working one-on-one with students, the successful candidate also will be asked to participate in unit- and/or University-wide committees or other initiatives. The Division of Undergraduate Studies is particularly interested in individuals with a broad and comprehensive understanding of contemporary higher education and the role of academic advising in fostering student success. Similarly, we seek an individual that can manage multiple tasks while also being able to foster or initiate creative thinking to further grow our program and help undergraduates reach their academic goals.
Review of materials will begin in mid-December and will continue until the position is filled. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. The job application information can be found at https://psu.jobs/job/92200.
