Job Description: The Economics Department at the State University at Albany, invites applications for an Academic Advisement Assistant, to begin in fall 2019.

Duties

The Academic Advisement Assistant will report directly to the Chair of the Economics Department. The successful candidate must have a commitment to student-centered advisement and should be comfortable using information technology to assist in advisement. The main responsibilities of the position include: • Coordinate communication between our students and alumni • Use email and the web to disseminate news and important information on an ongoing basis • Administer information sessions each semester for new and intended majors • Assist with staff transfer conferences and open houses • Serve as the liaison between the Department and other advisement assistants and/or career offices on campus.

Requirements: Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization • Two years of professional experience in academic advisement or in a student-services related area • Demonstrated superior interpersonal, written (as assessed by the application materials submitted), and oral communication skills • Strong computer skills • Applicants must address in their cover letter or personal statement their ability to work with a culturally diverse population
