Position Description
The School of Hospitality Management in the College of Health and Human Development is seeking a highly motivated, professional Academic Adviser. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working effectively with students in a team environment. This individual will be responsible for providing academic advising to students enrolled in and exploring the major; interpreting curriculum to students and other stakeholders; guiding students in course selection, scheduling, and long-range planning; assisting in resolving academic problems; monitoring academic progress; making professional referrals; and maintaining confidentiality of student records. This is a full-time position with significant involvement during the summer months.

Duties
The Academic Adviser serves as a liaison among students, faculty, staff, campus, and University constituents. The ideal candidate for Academic Advisor will have familiarity with the following knowledge domains, an understanding of basic procedures and practices, and ability to quickly learn processes used by the university and school for advising services: Understand the structure of the undergraduate major, its electives, and the prerequisites for efficient progression to degree Be able to quickly understand the scope of hospitality management courses taught at Campuses within the Penn State system, and the appropriate course prerequisites and substitutions. Learn and be able to interpret university policies and procedures to students and faculty Be proficient with computerized data analytics for establishing advising appointments, monitoring student progress, and sending updates to students via Starfish (advising system) Schedule regular office hours for face to face advising; maintain timely records of student contacts and meeting outcomes Participate in College/Departmental recruitment activities including New Student Orientation (NSO), Accepted Student Programs (ASPs), Spend a Summer Day (SASD), and Majors Night Work with the HHD Advising Center to “onboard” student applicants, meet with accepted students, participate in prospective student visits, and promote CQI for HHD advising.
