Position Description

The Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences is looking to fill two (2) Academic Advisors II positions: provide advising to students in the Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences regarding academic, career, and related matters; establish and maintain contact with students to monitor academic progress and counsel students in academic difficulty; act as a liaison between students and various academic and non-academic units; refer students to appropriate services and departments when necessary; serve as first point of contact for the college for prospective students and represent the college at recruiting events, on and off campus; facilitate the registration process for students and perform related administrative and advising duties including new student orientation; maintain accurate student records while using computers to generate reports and communicate with students and take on additional responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

A Master's degree in an arts and sciences discipline, higher education/college personnel or related area; experience working with students and others in an educational or agency environment; excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to demonstrate initiative and work in a team environment. This position also requires the ability to work early evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of two (2) years experience in a college advising center, student success center, first year program, or related higher education setting; understanding of academic policies and procedures; previous experience working with at-risk students and general knowledge of college admissions and financial aid.
