Position Description

The University of Akron, Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences, is looking to fill two openings for the position of Academic Adviser II. The successful applicants will provide advising to students in the Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences regarding academic, career, and related matters; establish and maintain contact with students to monitor academic progress and counsel students in academic difficulty; act as a liaison between students and various academic and non-academic units; refer students to appropriate services and departments when necessary; serve as first point of contact for the college for prospective students and represent the college at recruiting events on and off campus; facilitate the registration process for students; perform related administrative and advising duties including new student orientation; maintain accurate student records while using computers to generate reports and communicate with students; and take on additional responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in an arts and sciences discipline, higher education / college personnel, or related area; experience working with students and others in an educational or agency environment; excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational and computer skills; the ability to demonstrate initiative and work in a team environment; and the ability to work early evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of two (2) years experience in a college advising center, student success center, first year program, or related higher education setting; understanding of academic policies and procedures; previous experience working with at-risk students; and general knowledge of college admissions and financial aid.
