Position Description

The College of Engineering Honors Program is designed to provide highly motivated and academically successful students with a broader and enriched education experience beginning in their freshman year. The Academic Advisor will provide academic advising for students in the Goss Scholars/College of Engineering Honors Program and will work with other Goss Scholars/College of Engineering Honors Program Student Services staff to plan and direct Learning Community goals and activities. Responsibilities will include assistance with course selection; navigating Banner/MyPurdue Plan and the registration system; providing information to assist students in selecting an engineering major; career planning; assisting students in accessing academic and other campus resources; and working with a team Goss Scholars/College of Engineering Honors Program faculty and Student Services Professionals to develop and offer Learning Community programming to maximize student success in Engineering at Purdue University.

Master’s degree in an engineering, education, counseling, or related field
One year of work experience with student services, student affairs, career development, counseling, teaching, and/or advising Knowledge of academic advising
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with external business partners, students, faculty and staff
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion
Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
Basic proficiency in software: Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook (Electronic email/Calendaring) Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule; including nights and weekends to attend learning community events

Degree in a STEM field Experience with academic advising Experience with high achieving students, college student affairs, and/or residential life programming
Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University Familiarity with MyPurdue, Banner, COGNOS
