Position Description

Farmingdale State College (FSC) is the State University of New York's largest college of applied science and technology with an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students. Duties

The Farmingdale State College School of Business with over 2500 students enrolled in its programs is searching for 2 full-time Academic Advisors to advise and assist students. While the primary focus is on the Business major (Business Management, Business Analytics, and Global Business Management), Advisors will also advise students in other School of Business programs as needed such as Applied Economics, Sport Management, CPIS and Computer Science.

Duties for the positions include but are not limited to:
• Advise and counsel students on academic progress for the major, minor and certificate programs within the school of business
• Schedule appointments to help students track their progress towards graduations
• Answer student emails and phone calls regarding course selection and program requirements
• Unofficially evaluate transfer credits for new incoming transfer students
• Attend transfer sessions to help students with the registration process
• Collaborate with transfer services regarding transfer credit issues
• Collaborate with registrar regarding degree audit accuracy and course substitutions
• Guide students to proper campus polices regarding grade grievances, withdrawals, complaints, pre-requisites issues and transfer appeals
• Review graduation rosters and ensure that appropriate course substitutions are submitted
• Continuously review student audits to make sure they meet program requirements and fall within financial aid guidelines
• Ensure that students have the correct pre-requisites for the courses in which they are enrolled

Additional Information: This is a full-time UUP position.
• For the first 10 working days, beginning Wednesday, September 15, 2021 and ending Tuesday, September 28, 2021, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

• Salary: $50,000/year, may increase commensurate with experience

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
• Minimum of 1 year experience working with students in advisement, registration, and/or admissions;
• Broad knowledge to handle range of student concerns, issues and varied situations;
• Excellent computer skills;
• Ability to work independently with students, faculty, department chairs and administrators

Preferred Qualifications

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience with Banner and DegreeWorks (or similar tools);
• At least 1 year advising students in undergraduate business and related programs;
• Knowledge of SUNY General Education and Financial Aid policies.
