Position Description

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director – Academic Advising, this position delivers holistic, inclusive, developmental, and student-focused academic advising to undergraduate students in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences including identifying students’ interests, abilities, and academic goals and in making decisions regarding their academic career.

Duties

Academic Advisors assist in identifying struggling or at-risk students including making appropriate referrals to other college resources; schedule building, registration assistance, add/drop or withdrawal assistance, and major declaration; maintain detailed student records; participates in recruitment activities, programs, and initiatives including providing advising information to prospective students and orientation advising; participates in departmental and committee meetings as appropriate for supporting assigned students; develops and coordinates relationships with various offices on campus to better serve students; facilitates multiple sections of the First Year Experience course. The Academic Advisor works to foster a welcoming, nurturing, and belonging environment for all students, including those underrepresented in the computer sciences.

Additional Information

We have four positions open - all new lines in order to keep caseloads to about 250. This position is based on our Boston, MA campus. For fall there is an opportunity to work part time remote and part time on campus. We are in the process of instituting new salary floors for advisors on campus, please reach out if you'd like more info on salary.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or other relevant fields; experience working with diverse student populations; excellent oral and written communication skills; understanding of educational requirements and advising processes; demonstrated technology proficiency with various software applications; strong organizational skills; experience working as part of a team.
