Position Description

Individual will provide academic advisement to students majoring within the Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities. Academic advising includes assisting students with admissions processes, providing information on financial aid options, advise on academic program requirements (including General Education requirements), university, college and departmental policies and procedures and academic career planning. The Academic Advisor will help students resolve challenges regarding enrollment, retention, persistence to graduation and refer students to other WSU support services to help them achieve their academic and career goals. This individual will assist in various student recruitment and orientation events at the university, college and departmental level, and is expected to work closely with the Arts & Humanities Career Counselor and assist other members of the advising team and dean’s office staff as assigned. The Advisor is expected to participate in the University Academic Advising Council and may be asked to serve on various university, college and departmental committees.

Application Process

The annual salary range for this position is $36,000- $38,000 depending on candidate qualifications. The position comes with a generous benefits package. Some remote work may be possible. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
One year full-time college employment experience, preferably in enrollment services (academic advisement, registration, admissions or financial aid), student services or the equivalent. Experience and proficiency with computer applications including word processing, email, Internet, and spreadsheets.

Seeking applicants with the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Strong verbal and written communication, listening, record keeping, and information management. Ability to retain knowledge concerning university, college and department policies, think critically, and make appropriate judgment calls pertaining to the application and communication of university and department policies. Career and/or internship advising experience. Fluency in Spanish. Ability to become a skilled user of Banner and other technological tools upon which WSU relies. Customer-service oriented, due to the importance of positive first impressions and positive subsequent contacts with diverse internal and external constituents. Ability and willingness to work with colleagues and supervisor to build a work schedule that complements the work schedules of peers to assure that sufficient advising coverage is available; occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
