Position Description
The UNH Manchester Office of Academic Advising is seeking applicants for a professional academic advisor. The college utilizes an advising model that is a combination of professional academic advisors and faculty advisors. This position will provide individual and group advising to a variety of undergraduate students (including first-year, transfer, associate degree, undeclared, veterans, and at-risk students) and build relationships with faculty and staff. Advisors must accurately interpret and communicate academic policies and requirements, including discovery program (UNH’s general education), as well as major and minor requirements to students and faculty advisors. In addition, this position works with UNH Manchester students interested in study away opportunities in consultation with UNH Global.‚Äč

Duties
• Provide proactive appreciative advising to a caseload of undergraduate students and support the advising experience of all undergraduate students, acting as a general resource and advocating for them when appropriate
• Assess, monitor and track student progress and follow-up as needed to promote student success
• Evaluate and make recommendations on student petitions
• Collaborate with academic advisors, faculty, and staff to provide a supportive academic environment
• Make appropriate referrals to academic departments and other resources
• Participate in prospective and new student programs and engage in programming for current students

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in related field such as academic advising, counseling or student development
• Two years of experience working directly with students in academic advising
• Commitment to student-centered advising approach
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
• Effective interpersonal skills to work with students from diverse backgrounds
• Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications
• Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Degree Works and Banner
• Experience working with transfer students and evaluating transfer credit
• Familiarity with academic support services including disability services, academic skill building, and working with students in academic difficulty
• Experience with study away advising
