The position is for an academic advisor exclusively to support the students sponsored at Penn State by the Aramco Services Company (ASC). This is the U.S. office of the Saudi Aramco energy company. The position is based in State College, PA. The ASC office is in Houston. The advisor works in coordination with the Houston office. There are over 100 students currently sponsored at Penn State.
A. Advises Out-of-Kingdom (OOK) students on academic matters through regular campus visits, by telephone and in writing. Counsels university students regarding degree plans. Responds to student emails and phone calls (normal & emergency calls 24/7). Assist students with processing of travel authorizations, cash advances, and financial reimbursement programs. (~20%) Monitors student progress on various databases. Communicate regularly with students in various media.
B. Provides information on procedures and overall program assistance with a focus on immigration-related matters but also personal, academic, social and acculturation issues. (~20%)
C. Provides liaison with university officials in the areas of program development, placement and student monitoring. Responds to university officials regarding students, etc. (~20%)
D. Collaborates closely with other Academic Programs staff and coordinates information from counterparts in Dhahran. Maintains precise record keeping as required by federal law (with special attention to SEVIS-related events and requirements) and university procedures. (~10%)
E. Ensures that students complete their programs on schedule through degree plan tracking and provides appropriate counseling as required. Reviews problem cases with Academic Programs staff, ASC supervisory staff and sponsor to resolve problems relating to participants/programs. Prepares Case Reviews as needed. Records decisions on review cases, student contact, attendance in review case meetings, preparation of case sheets, records maintenance, and submission of case to Dhahran and informing the student of the results. F. Provides graduation list to SAO. Ensures graduation packets are sent and received back by ASC. Obtains and files graduation letter and final transcript.
G. Liaises with designated computer systems personnel to resolve Career Development problems, revises Company databases updates and maintains reports. Attends and participates in committee meetings such as Efficiencies Team, Audit Team, Finance Team, Behavior/Conduct Team, Case Reviews and Travel Team.
H. Assesses the success of existing programs in assigned area, conducts research, develops proposals for new programs and makes recommendations for improvement. Performs other duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
