The College of Business is seeking an Academic Advisor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean. The position supports the primary mission of the University, College of Business (COB), and Academic Services. The individual holding the position serves as an Academic Advisor and assists undergraduate students with a full range of support including orientation, academic program planning, course selection, registration, internship coordination, and career planning. The advisor monitors student progress, and suggests and implements corrective actions when students encounter academic difficulties. The advisor coordinates with other University departments regarding undergraduate academic courses that support degree programs. The advisor also works with the student information system and various data files and sources, and prepares a wide variety of reports using multiple databases and spreadsheets. The advisor keeps abreast of University and College policies and procedures, and rules and regulations to assist students in meeting academic requirements. The advisor also assumes leadership roles that support academic programs and special projects. College of Business academic advisors work with students pursuing degrees in the areas of business and design, and assist students studying on-campus, online, at the PDX center and the Cascades Campus.
55% DIRECT ADVISING To undergraduate students pursuing majors in business and design. Monitor progress of approximately 350 College of Business and 100 non-business students, enforce university and college academic standards, and suggest corrective strategies and actions when necessary. Assist students with academic program planning, course selection, and registration issues. Provide guidance to undergraduate students regarding experiential opportunities, student success strategies, OSU and College of Business petition and appeals processes. Provide career planning information to students interested in pursuing a College of Business degree program. Offer referrals when appropriate.
25% INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE COORDINATOR FOR INCOMING EXCHANGE STUDENTS TO THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
Collaborate with head advisor and outgoing exchange student coordinator to manage the college’s robust exchange program, specifically as duties relate to the incoming student population. Position will be main point of contact with exchange partner schools for their outgoing students. Assist students with registration, general information. Collaborate with international admissions and immigration specialist in the admissions process for these students. Participate in COB Abroad recruiting events. Effectively run organized, professional, and informative orientations about College of Business programs every term. Evaluate and modify programs and processes regularly as needed.
10% RECORDS, DATA MANAGEMENT, GRADUATION AUDITS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Maintain accurate notes and records of student progress in files and MyDegrees. Notify College scribe from the Registrar’s office of needed modifications to MyDegrees when appropriate. Enter exceptions into MyDegrees for advisees. Evaluate transfer credits for program requirements in conjunction with program directors. Conduct graduation audits quarterly for majors and minors, including proper notification to students and Registrar’s Office.
5% ORIENTATION AND SPECIAL RECRUITING EVENTS
Collaborate with College of Business recruitment team and assist as needed. Assist in reviewing major/minor declaration prospects for eligibility several times per term. Work with OSU and College of Business Summer Orientation Program (START) coordinator to deliver Academic START presentations to new admits.
5% SUPPORT ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AND SPECIAL PROJECTS
Serve as liaison for 1-2 College of Business discipline directors on a regular basis. May assist with winter Exchange interviews. Create and/or present student engagement workshops as needed. Duties and responsibilities vary depending on the specific assignment. Program and project assignments will be made by the Associate Dean of Academic Programs or Head Advisor. Collaborate with College of Business Recruitment team to assist with recruiting events as needed. Deliver Academic START presentations to newly admitted students. Assist in reviewing major/minor declaration prospects for eligibility several times per term.
