Position Description

The Academic Advisor will support students in the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS). The primary advising area will be for students in the Department of Psychological Sciences.

Duties

Core responsibilities include advising current students and meeting with prospective students and families; guiding students in developing a plan of study that meets degree requirements; assisting with course selection, class scheduling, and co-curricular opportunities; communicating with students who are having academic difficulty, including those on academic probation and who have gone through the re-entry/readmission process; conducting audits on student's progress toward completion of their plan of study; communicating and working with the College of HHS, the Registrar, the Dean of Students, and other University Offices to maximize student access and success.

Required:
-Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field
-One year of work experience with academic advising, student services, student affairs, career development, counseling, and/or related field
-Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills
-Excellent customer service skills and professionalism in dealing with external business partners, students, faculty, and staff
-Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
-Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
-Ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and parents
-Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information, and implement solutions

Preferred Qualifications

-Ability and willingness to work in a changing environment
-Must possess a learning orientation to changing technology
-Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion -Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
-Basic proficiency in software: Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook (Electronic email/Calendaring)
