Position Description
Frostburg State University engages every student in collaborative, learner-centered advising, focusing on academic, professional, and personal development. To support this mission, Frostburg State University, Center for Academic Advising and Retention, seeks applications for full-time, 12-month exempt Academic Advisor positions in a comprehensive academic support system.
Duties
Reporting to the Director of Academic Advising, provide academic advising services and monitor student progress. Advise students about academic requirements and course selection; review placement and standardized tests, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites; interpret degree audits, monitor course registrations, and work with students to resolve issues; act as a student advocate when appropriate. Support First-Year Progress Survey and Beacon early alert systems; meet with students in jeopardy, counsel on goal-setting and academic recovery, and refer to support services. Assist with the Student Success Mentor Program, first-year student orientation course preparation, faculty training, presentations, and assessment. Distribute advising policies and procedures; serve as a resource for academic departments and other offices, advisors, and services; participate in advisor training. Understand FERPA regulations and stay current on institutional policies, procedures, practices, and student information systems. Assist with planning, implementation, and evaluation of student retention initiatives and outreach projects.
