Position Description

• Academic Advising: Manage caseload of active students and positively impact persistence and re-enrollment through providing proactive, reactive, comprehensive, and exceptional student service.
• Transfer and Credit Evaluation: Evaluate unofficial and official academic, military, and nontraditional credit for transfer into the BMS degree program, present options for degree completion that aligns with student needs and goals, and apply credit to degree requirements accordingly.
• Retention and Persistence: Consistently and reliably follow up with students and maintain excellent documentation in all internal and institutional record keeping systems.
• Student Support and Referral: Support students with problem-solving academic and educational concerns, interpret and provide rationale for institutional policies, procedures, and requirements, and refer to internal and external resources as necessary.
• Student Recruiting and Onboarding: Offer current and prospective students personalized guidance from preadmission exploration through graduation celebration.
• DCS and University Engagement: Engage in DCS strategic planning and initiatives, contribute to continuous improvement and innovation, seek ongoing professional development, and lead special projects as assigned; participate in university committees, programs and events.
• Additional Functions: Fluent in academic advising technologies (e.g. Peoplesoft, Starfish, DegreeWorks, Transfer Evaluation System); engage in appropriate and ethical decision-making; maintain cohesive working relationships, view conflict positively, and operate with honesty and respect in all communication.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field of study
• 2 or more years of full-time work history

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an academic setting with adult and contemporary learners. Experience with software technologies preferred: Student Information Systems and Microsoft Office including Excel.
