Position Description

The Academic Advisor will conduct advising on a daily basis for various student populations in The Patton College of Education such as veterans, first generation, on-line, undecided, probationary, reinstated, honors, transfer students and commuter students. In addition, the advisor will meet with prospective students, conduct student orientation sessions during Bobcat Student Orientation, update Degree Audit Review System (DARS) as needed, collect data, produce reports, maintain and communicate information regarding student records with the department, college and university, organize and facilitate group advising sessions, design and monitor programs for at-risk populations, and assure confidentiality. This position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with students from initial contact and recruitment through the various stages of enrollment, degree planning and eventual graduation. The academic advisor will be a department or program liaison, as well as a regional campus liaison and will travel at least one time per semester to advise at an assigned regional campus. Other duties include developing and implementing retention initiatives, and will include programmatic areas based on the skill set of the advisor. Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Masters degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or a related discipline; At least one year experience related to academic advising in higher education (relevant graduate student experience will be taken into consideration).

Preferred Qualifications

Appreciative Advising certification. Three years full time advising experience in Higher Education. Experience working with veterans, first generation, underrepresented minorities, and other special populations. Proven experience working with retention initiatives. Experience using technology to support academic advising.
