Position Description

Cardinal Stritch University is currently seeking a qualified candidate for our Academic Advising department. An Academic Advisor is responsible for academic advising, registration and graduation planning for students at Cardinal Stritch University. Academic Advisors aid in retention activities by monitoring student progress, taking appropriate intervention action as needed and facilitating programs that aid in understanding degree requirements, major and career discernment, and graduation planning.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Provide initial academic advising and goal setting for all incoming freshmen and transfer students in traditional semester programs. Provide ongoing advising for continuing students related to general education requirements and graduation requirements and major and career discernment and preparation. Aid students in understanding the financial aid process, their requirements and methods for meeting their financial obligations. Maintain regular contact with assigned students via phone, email and in-person to help ensure retention. Provide more intrusive advising for those individuals considered "at-risk" (i.e. those flagged through the alert system, conditionally accepted students, probation and academic warning, part-time students). Provide an overview of the semester schedule, the basic core curriculum and the fundamentals of schedule construction to all students. Continually update and maintain student files with appropriate advising notes and documentation. Provide holistic student service using Jenzabar EXi. My.Stritch and associated advising technologies. Liaison with academic departments to assure accuracy of degree planning information, advocate for students and provide guidance on career-related issues. Liaison with Enrollment Services and the Registrar's office in utilizing processes that support the advising and registration of students. Facilitate activities and programming designed to aid students in major and career discernment and planning for both graduation and beyond. Aid in managing identified retention milestones for student populations and assuring their continued progress on a pathway to graduation. Perform related activities as assigned by the Associate Director and/or Director of Academic Advising. Other duties as assigned.
