Position Description

Provides academic advisement for prospective, current, and former students within a specified undergraduate academic department or equivalent unit of a college. Assesses academic level,attends to student inquiries, assists in problem resolution, and advises on program changes, and in the development of academic plans and schedules. Analyzes applications, transfer evaluations, and transcripts for entry and exit from the university. Maintains appropriate records. May establish programs for target recruitment and retention and develop program and marketing materials.


Provides holistic academic advising services to DACC students, including regular college students, dual credit students and early college high school students. Assists students to develop basic career plans and goals, and target these in selecting a major. Assists student to develop comprehensive academic plans toward either Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways or transfer pathways to an NMSU bachelor’s degree and beyond, or another institution. Documents advising sessions and student interactions through electronic caseload notes. Uses various technology platforms to communicate with and manage student caseload. Proactively reaches out to students by responding to academic and non-academic alerts and resolves and documents cases. Assists with DACC New Student Orientation programs. Assists academic department(s) with final degree checks using the STAR degree audit. Resolves a range of complex student-related barriers to enrollment and success. Works with supervisor and unit team to perform related work assignments as needed.
