Position Description

The College of Business and Technology at East Tennessee State University recognizes academic advising as an essential component of a high-quality educational experience. The academic advisors in the College of Business and Technology are dedicated to promoting student success and supporting and empowering undergraduate students in pursuit of their academic and career goals. Academic advisors in the College support majors in Accountancy, Economics, Finance, Management, Marketing, Computing, Digital Media, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Interior Architecture, and Surveying and Mapping Science.


Responsible to the Director of Recruitment and Student Success in the College of Business and Technology, the advisor works as a member of the College’s advising team, supporting recruitment, student success, and retention initiatives. The academic advisor assists students in selecting majors, exploring career goals, and creating and following a degree plan. The academic advisor identifies and supports at-risk students, connecting them to various campus resources. The advisor is responsible for keeping thorough academic advisement records, participating in on- and off-campus recruiting activities, participating in regularly scheduled orientation and advisement sessions, and performing other related duties as assigned.
